9th National Inter-Primary Schools Wushu Championship
Once again, BVPS Wushu Team has done us proud!
94 primary schools took part in the recent 9th National Inter-Primary Schools Wushu Championship.
Zheng Shiliang competed in the Senior Boy’s Cudgel Category and came in National 6th. Charmaine Tan competed in Changquan Category and came in National 2nd.

Tamil Language Competitions for Primary School Pupils 2013

Pocketful of Pantun – 3 Finalists!
This creative writing competition is part of the Singapore Writer's Festival 2013. It is all about the playfulness of the pantun form. Compact and close to our hearts, its lines carry a depth of meaning that belies its simplicity and charm.

Developed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the new website was launched by Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, at the MOE Work Plan Seminar 2012.The PiE website contains articles on parenting tips, educational news, information on the school curriculum, and resources for parents to support their children’s learning at home.
THE SCI-FI GIRLZ - Ultimate Champion And Best Dressed Award
For this year’s Science Buskers’ Festival (organised annually by the Science Centre Singapore), 3 of our Science Buskers teams were selected out of 119 entries. Our Sci-Fi Girlz team (Hemalatha and Angel Lee- 5 Joy), Brain Freezers team (Kalyani Nair and Nazia Tazin – 4 Joy ) and The Kings of Science team (Vkhe Aryan Pramod and Hymn Ong – 4 Joy) were shortlisted for the Finals. The Sci-Fi Girlz were voted into the Top Ten after 3 days of intense busking rounds held at the Science Centre and were selected to compete in the Grand Finals. There were 12 teams competing in the Primary category and Secondary category. Our Sci-Fi Girlz emerged the Overall Champion of the Science Buskers 2012 and they also won the Best Dressed Award. Congratulations and well done girls!
Sony Creative Science 2012 – Merit Award
Our Primary 3, 4 and 5 students took part in the Sony Creative Science 2012 competition. The competition requires pupils to use their imagination and creativity to make toys that demonstrate scientific principles. Yang Ya Jie of 4 Joy has won the Merit Award for her creation, ‘An Enjoyable Hat’. Congratulations, Ya Jie!
Singapore Olympic Foundation - Peter Lim Scholarship
Ezekiel Shoban S/O Logan from 6 Grace was among the 270 recipients who received the Peter Lim Scholarship for his good track record in his CCA - Rugby.

4th National Chinese Scholar Competition 2012
A team of three comprising Huang Yuji (6 Joy), Liu Yifei (6 Love) and Tng Kian Heng (6 Care) did the school proud by emerging as champions in the National Chinese Scholar Competition, organised by Xishan Primary School and E-Com Digital International Pte Ltd. This marks the fourth year running that BVPS has won this competition.
Another team comprising Hsieh Yu Chun (6 Joy), Weng Linjie (6 Care) and Liao Jingcheng (5 Joy) won the consolation award. Both teams went through 5 rounds of intense competition, beating 50 other schools before going into the final.

Civica eBook Competition 2012
Congratulations to Nandana Jayachandran from 6 Joy for being selected as one of the 35 winning authors of this year’s Civica Tales of S eBook Competition. The theme is ‘A Night in the Library’. Her story was shortlisted from a total of 1200 entries from 150 Primary and Secondary Schools for this year's competition. Well done, Nandana!
RHB-The Straits Times National Spelling Championship 2012
Nandana Jayachandran of 6 Joy emerged as the West Zone Champion in the RHB-The Straits Times National Spelling Championship 2012. She was also the national 5th in the Finals Round. Tan Nana of 6 Joy also made it through 3 rounds of intense competition and was one of the top 29 finalists.

Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School 2012
Bukit View Primary School took part in the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School organised by Hwa Chong Institution. On top of the 3 Bronze Awards and 1 Gold Award, Shin Geon Woo from 5 Joy also achieved the Platinum Award, which is awarded to candidates in the top 2%! Well done and congratulations to all prize winners!
Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest 2012 (Junior Category)
Bukit View Primary School took part in the Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest (Junior Category). 4 of our pupils achieved Distinctions and 2 of our pupils achieved High Distinctions in this competition. The top four pupils from each school competed for the Challenge Trophy and Bukit View emerged as the Champion team! Well done and congratulations to all prize winners!
12th Budding Writers Project 2012 - Finalist
The Budding Writers Project is organised by Marshall Cavendish each year to develop the creative talents of students and provide them with the opportunity to get their work published and sold in bookstores, in the hope of inspiring students to be young writers.
Earlier this year, a team of students from 5 Joy, Kil Jun Hyeok, Roshni Kantaria and Anuj Prasanna Ogale, participated in this project with their entry titled “A Girl’s Dream” and was selected as one of the top 20 Finalists! We would like to congratulate the 3 students for their remarkable effort.
National Arts Education Spark Award
Bukit View Primary School has achieved the National Arts Education Spark Award (2011 – 2012). The National Arts Education Award is a national arts award for schools in Singapore which provide holistic arts education for all students and have good arts practices and programmes.
National Chinese Creative Writing Competition 2012
Liao Jing Cheng of 5 Joy achieved the Merit Award in the National Chinese Creative Writing Competition 2012, organised by Marsiling Secondary School. A total of 65 primary schools participated in this competition.

SYF Gold with Honours - Chinese Dance
Our Chinese Dance clinched the Gold with Honours Award at the 2012 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging. It is the fourth consecutive Gold with Honours award for the school.

Our Angklung /Kulintang Ensembles participated in the 2012 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging and clinched the Gold Award. Out of 20 participating schools, our school is one out of six schools to be awarded Gold, the highest award given for this year.

West Zone Primary School Rugby Championship
Our Senior Rugby Team – The Spartans, took part in the West Zone Primary School Rugby Championships held in March 2012 and emerged second out of the 6 schools that participated.
The boys’ hard work and efforts have paid off and they will be participating in the National Inter-primary School Rugby Championships in April.

8th National Inter-Primary Schools Wushu Championship
Once again, BVPS Wushu Team has done us proud!
This year, 94 primary schools took part in the 8th National Inter-Primary Schools Wushu Championship.
Charmaine Tan Si En of 5 Love competed in the Junior Girls’ categories and came in 4th in national position in Jianshu (Chinese sword) and Changquan ( barehands northern style).
Congratulations to Si En for her excellent performance and the Wushu Team for their hard work.

Green Schools@ South West
In 2011, our school participated in the "Green Schools @ South West" project, jointly organised by the South West Community Development Council and the National Environment Agency. We participated in the following modules:

Good Progress School, again!
Bukit View Primary School is one of the PSLE “Good Progress” schools once again! One of the criteria for making it to the “Good Progress” list is improvement in quality results. This year, the students have performed exceedingly well, with all subjects above the national average in both quantity and quality results.
Thanks to the diligence and commitment of both teachers and students, BVPS has made it to MOE's “Good Progress” list in 2005, 2008 and 2011.
Inspiring Teacher of English Award 2011 - Miss Pamela Kiew
The school would like to congratulate Miss Pamela Kiew for being awarded the Inspiring Teacher of English Award 2011.
88 teachers were nominated by their students, parents and endorsed by their principals. Miss Kiew was one of the 8 teachers who clinched the award.
“Ms Pamela Kiew believes in making English interesting and relevant to her students. She brings the English language to life in her school through a variety of methods – one of which is a “Performing Arts Studio”, a room filled with props to spur teachers and students into scripting plays and putting on drama performances. Another of her programmes, “Mad about English”, gets students to complete tasks related to the four English Language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Recognising that students look to adults as role models, she initiated a programme for all non-teaching staff, including canteen vendors andsecurity guards, to be trained to speak in Standard English.”

Science Buskers Festival 2011 - 1st and 2nd Runner Up

Two of our Science Buskers Teams were selected out of the 119 entries for this year’s Science Buskers Festival, organised annually by the Singapore Science Centre.
Our HI Science Team comprising Hemalatha and her “puppet Ivan” and our Science Busters Team comprising Satvik and Ye Htut, all from 4 Joy, were voted top ten during the busking rounds held at Plaza Singapura. Blazing through the competition,Bukit View Primary School was the only school with two teams in the Grand Final held at the Singapore Science Centre. Out of the five teams in the Primary Category, our HI Science Team did us proud by emerging second and our Science Busters Team won the third prize as well as the prize for Best Dressed.
We would like to congratulate the 3 students on their marvellous performance.
Project H20 Competition - 2nd Prize
Bukit View Primary School clinched the 2nd prize in the Project H20 Competition, organised by PUB and supported by Senoko Corporation.
Mavis Zhang, Jie Wei and Vignesh of 5 Joy took part in the competition. They designed a game titled ‘Around Singapore in 30 Drops’. The team was shortlisted during the preliminary round after they presented their project idea to a panel of judges consisting of key industry players and personnel from PUB. Out of the 16 schools that were shortlisted, Bukit View Primary came in 2nd in the Primary Schools category.
The win came as a pleasant surprise to the 3 students and they were glad that their hard work and efforts had paid off.
In conjunction with Mother Tongue Fortnight, W4 cluster organised a Chinese Game Show. The contest required students to answer questions ranging from idioms to current affairs. Despite the tough competition, our students comprising Tng Kian Heng, Weng Linjie and Li Mingxia of 5 Care did the school proud by emerging 1st runner-up out of the 8 teams which participated in the competition.
Chinese Bridge Chinese Oratorical Contest - 2nd Runner-Up
Liu Yifei of 5 Joy clinched the second runner-up prize in the “Chinese Bridge – Chinese Oratorical Contest 2011” organised by the Singapore Chinese Teachers’ Union and HanBan. The competition required students to make a speech based on topics given by the organisers. Students were judged on whether they were able to speak confidently and articulate words clearly with suitable intonation and pitch. We would like to congratulate Yifei on his excellent achievement!
Sony Creative Science Award 2011 – First Prize!
Our Primary 3 and 4 pupils took part in the Sony Creative Science competition. The competition requires pupils to use their imagination and creativity to make toys that demonstrate scientific principles.
This year, there was a record high of around 4000 entries from 100 primary schools and we are very proud that Yang Ya Jie of 3 Joy has won the First Prize for her toy ‘Crazy Sweeper’ out of the 4000 entries!

National Chinese Scholar Competition 2011
Our pupils did the school proud by emerging the Champion Team in the National Chinese Scholar Competition. Bukit View Primary School has won the award for the third consecutive year, since 2009. The team comprising Li Mingyu from 6 Love, Lim See Neei from 6 Joy and Weng Linjie from 5 Care went through 5 rounds of intense competition before being coming in first out of the 30 schools that took part in this competition. Well done!
2011 River Valley Maths Challenge - Champion School!
BVPS emerged as the Champion school for the 2011 River Valley Maths Challenge, beating pupils from 62 other schools! Our pupils Abimanyu and Ashwin from Primary 6 Joy came in first and third respectively in the Individual Round and the BVPS team came in 2nd for the Team Round. Based on the excellent results accumulated from all the competing rounds, BVPS was presented the Challenge Trophy for being the Champion School. Well done, boys!
2011 National Inter-Primary School Mathematics & Science Competition
Our pupils, Abhimanyu, Ashwin and Rayhan of 6 Joy, did the school proud at the Inter-Primary Maths and Science Competition 2011, organised by St Andrew's Secondary School.
The school emerged overall champion in the team category. In addition, Abhimanyu and Ashwin clinched the 1st and 2nd places respectively in the individual category.
BVPS took part in the Primary Mathematics Project Competition 2011, organised by the Gifted Education Branch and NUS High School, for the fourth consecutive year and won the Outstanding Project Award for both the P4 Poster Category and the P5 Game Design Category. This is the first time the school has won in both categories. Congratulations and well done!
Shell Singapore Youth Science Festival (SSYSF) Stage! Drama Competition 2011
Since 2007, an exciting competition called SSYSF Stage! has been organised for primary level students. The competition hopes to increase participants' communication skills, science awareness and creativity in presentation. Bukit View Primary is proud to announce that this year, we won 3rd prize, Best Props Award as well as 2 Best Performer Awards for the amazing performance by Jeremy Tabensky from 6 Care and Hemalatha from 4 Joy.

The school's Wushu team has done us proud by emerging the Champion Team in the Junior Girls' Group Weapon Category.
In addition, Choo Xiaoyue has done very well by coming in second in the Senior Boys' Sword Category.

2010 Science Buskers Festival - 2nd Prize!
"Science Buskers" was organised by Science Centre Singapore in conjunction with A"Star".
31 teams from primary and secondary schools were shortisted to "busk" at Plaza Singapura over the 3-day weekend (10 to 12 Sept 2010). Based on voting from the public and judges decisions,10 schools were identified for the finals which was held at Science Centre on 18 Sep 2010.
Our Science Busker team of Avani Gupta and Cynthia Lee did the school proud by clinching the 2nd prize. They also won the following awards:

2010 ICAS Computer Skills - Wayne Tee : Medal Winner!

2010 Young Reporters Competition - Champion School !!
Our BVPS Young Reporters took part in the 1st YOG Young Reporters' Competition organized by Singapore Children's Newspaper, National Arts Council and National Library Board on 25 July 2010.
30 schools participated in the preliminary round and only 9 schools made it into the final round. After some exciting moments, our team was eventually declared the Champion!

2010 Primary Mathematics Project Competition
Our pupils participated in the Primary Mathematics Project Competition, organised by NUS High and MOE Gifted Education Branch. Our team was awarded the Outstanding Project Award! Bukit View Primary School has won this award for the third consecutive year, since 2008. Our heartiest congratulations to the pupils and teachers involved!
2010 Malay Language Vodcast Competition - Champion School !!
BVPS has done it again! This time round, for the Lensa Bahasa, a Malay Language Video Production Competition, organised by the Ministry of Education. Our pupils came in first out of 75 schools that took part in this competition. Congratulations to the teachers and pupils involved!
River Valley High School Mathematics Challenge Overall Position - 2nd Runner Up
Our pupils took part in the River Valley High School Mathematics Challenge last month. They were the 2nd Runner-up overall out of 52 schools and 1st Runner-up in the Team Round (out of 101 teams). Well done, boys!
Staff Achievement - Miss Eliana
Congratulations to our new teacher, Miss Eliana Bte Mohamed on being conferred First Class Honours for Bachelor of Arts (Education). Miss Eliana received her book prize from the Minister of Education, Dr Ng Eng Hen at the NIE Teacher's Investure Ceremony.

Immersion Programme and Cultural Visit to Beijing
12 teachers and 57 pupils went on an immersion programme and cultural visit to Beijing, China from 8 to 15 June 2010. BVPS was invited to perform for Haitian Elementary School's 45th Anniversary Celebration, which was broadcast on CCTV, a national TV station in Beijing.
2010 National Chinese Scholar Online Competition - Champion School !!
Our pupils participated in the National Chinese Scholar Online Competition, organised by Rosyth School on 10 July. BVPS was named CHAMPION school! This was the second time around as we were also Champion in 2009!
2010 W4 Cluster Soccer Carnival - Champion School !!
Our Soccer boys team came in first in the Cluster Soccer Carnival held at Hong Kah Sec School on 10 July.
Muhd Farhan of 6 Grace was also awarded Most Skilful Player for the tournament.
2010 Brainjuice Competition on Okto Channel - Champion School !!
Our P5 pupils did the school proud at the June 2010 Brainjuice competition organised by MediaCorp on Okto Channel.
After much nail-biting moments, BVPS was declared the CHAMPION school! Watch out for the finals which will be telecast on Okto channel on 30 Sep 2010!
Building 21st century thinking skills through game play!
6 teachers from our school went on Teacher Work Attachment (TWA) atThinkFun (in Washinton, USA) during the recent June holidays to learn about using brain games to build up pupils' thinking skills. This initiative is in line with the school's innovative, school-wide programme (MBA or Mass Brain Acitivities) which was started in 2009.
